Newly appointed West Ham coach Kevin Nolan suggested that he has already seen enough to know that the Hammers will avoid relegation, when speaking exclusively to WHUFC.com. And some West Ham fans have taken to Twitter in response to his comments.

The Hammers are currently in real trouble. They are sitting in 18th spot in the Premier League table, one point adrift of safety. They do have a game in hand on some of the teams above them, however.

The bad news is that that game is away to Manchester City next Wednesday.

There is plenty of doom and gloom reverberating around the media regarding West Ham’s current plight.

Nolan wasn’t having any of it, however, when speaking to WHUFC.com:

West Ham United Training and Press Conference

“I’ve seen enough from the lads in training. They know the task ahead and this has been the first week where the gaffer has been able to have a real input in what he wants to show so we’re hoping we’ll be able to see some good, positive stuff. We’ve all been in these situations before, we all know what is needed and we’re very confident that we can get there come the end of the season.”

That kind of confidence is refreshing to hear, but let’s just hope that it isn’t misplaced confidence from the former Hammers ace.

After the City game on Wednesday, West Ham travel to Liverpool, before playing host to Southampton. They then play away at Arsenal before welcoming Wolves to the London Stadium. Their horror run of fixtures is capped off with a trip to Tottenham and a home game against Chelsea.

And some Hammers fans don’t seem to share Nolan’s optimism…
