West Ham boss David Moyes will have just £40 million to spend on new players in the summer, according to a report from Sky Sports, and some Hammers fans have taken to Twitter in reaction to the speculation.
The east London outfit have the threat of relegation hanging over their heads at the moment.
David Moyes’s men are sitting in 16th spot in the Premier League table. But they are only two points clear of 19th placed Aston Villa, having played a game more than Dean Smith’s side.
The Scot has already spent a fair amount since returning to the London Stadium.
West Ham signed Jarrod Bowen from Hull for £22 million (The Guardian), Darren Randolph for £4 million from Middlesbrough (Daily Mail), and Tomas Soucek on loan from Slavia Prague for a £3.5 million loan fee (The Guardian).
The Hammers have the option to make the Czech’s deal a permanent one, if they avoid the drop for a further £13.5 million (The Guardian).
If West Ham avoid relegation, however, surely the board should be giving Moyes at least double the reported £40 million budget. That’s if they have real ambition to push the club forward of course. And that is highly debatable.
Some Hammers fans took to Twitter in reaction to the £40 million budget report…
That’s a pathetic total…the owners don’t care if we’re competitive in any way, I wonder if they’ll be including the Bowen & Soucek totals in that!
Even accounting for Release clauses, that doesn’t get you much in the market anymore unless we sell, Salisu £10.5m is a must IMO

What people are forgetting is that Soucek’s 14m fee is included in that 40m, meaning that our budget will be 25m, just like it was this season. They’ve said 40m to make it sound better than what it is

Needs a minimum of 50-100 million to fix our team

So we can buy 1 half decent player who could be a flop in the premier league

So, one decent player.

What other team ever puts this news out? In this day and age, you need to spend at least £70m to stand still in the premier league. #GSBOUT

if true Gold and Sully should be ashamed

And the tweets kept coming…
We shouldn’t be putting this kind of information in public at all, pitiful as that amount is. It’s stupid to say how much you have or haven’t got. Typical.

£40M doesn’t even buy a drcent CB , our board are a joke

1 player then

The books over the last few seasons would show a “break even” transfer spend of £50-60m (not taking into account the reduced wage bill).
The hammering Sullivans finances will take with commercial property values will mean he’ll need to rinse the club for extra cash now to.
