Sam Allardyce suggested that Rafa Benitez would have been the wrong man for the job at West Ham, when speaking to Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT (Tuesday, February 11th, 07:15).

And some Hammers fans took to Twitter in response to Big Sam’s comments, surprisingly backing up their former boss.

Allardyce was in charge at West Ham from 2011 to 2015. He guided the Hammers to promotion in his first season at the helm, and then led them to respectable 10th, 13th and 12th placed finishes in the Premier League.

“I’m not sure Rafa Benitez would be a forward step [for West Ham]. If you have seen what Rafa did at Newcastle. I always seemed to play the wrong style of football at West Ham whilst I was there. Rafa plays that style of football all the time. He has got a great reputation and he has been a great manager. And there’s no doubt about that. He will set a team out on the basis of the quality of the team. And West Ham doesn’t suit.
