The Maxi Gomez saga already seems like many moons ago for West Ham United fans.

The long-running transfer battle between West Ham and Valencia eventually fell in favour of the La Liga side.

Fans of both clubs had pleaded with the striker to sign for them on his various social media posts.

West Ham were desperate for a striker and were running out of options.

Gomez saga left bitter taste but not for long

Valencia got their man, though, and at the time Hammers fans were left feeling a touch disconsolate.

Champions League football and sunnier climes had won the day for the Spanish outfit over West Ham’s more lucrative contract.

In the end West Ham need not have worried. The record capture of the more proven striker Sebastien Haller saw to that.

West Ham fans will no doubt keep one eye on the fortunes of Valencia and Gomez next season.

So they will be interested to know that just weeks after beating the Hammers to the Uruguayan, the club is in chaos.

Valencia in chaos just weeks after beating Hammers to marquee signing

It comes as the boss who led Valencia back into the Champions League, Marcelino Garcia Toral, and the head of their recruitment, general manager Mateu Alemany, look set to walk out on the club.

Reputable Valencia-based journalist Hector Gomez reports that Garcia Toral wants to leave as he ‘does not trust others in the sporting direction should Alemany leave’.

Alemany was behind Marcelino’s appointment two summers ago and stuck by the coach earlier in the season with the club languishing in the bottom half of the standings.

Marca claims that Alemany is due to leave the Mestalla due to irreversible differences with the club’s president Peter Lim, in what will be viewed as a significant blow to Los Che.

Alemany has been lauded for helping drive Valencia’s rise back to the top table of Spanish football in the past two seasons with successive top four finishes.

Indeed he had a major hand in revamping the club’s recruitment and landing the likes of Gomez ahead of West Ham.

West Ham in calm waters

The reports claim Lim interfered in sporting matters. As a result there has been a professional fallout between the individuals with Alemany considering his position untenable.

It could prove unsettling for a new signing like Gomez after buying into the vision sold to him by the duo.

Indeed the fact he was their signing would have given him confidence as the 22-year-old looks to justify his big transfer fee.

It remains to be seen what happens next.

But West Ham will be interested spectators as they sail along infinitely calmer waters with Manuel Pellegrini, Mario Husillos and owners David Sullivan and David Gold harmonious and pulling in the same direction.
