West Ham United have the fear factor back if comments from Paul Merson are anything to go by.
Cardiff visit West Ham on Tuesday night with Manuel Pellegrini’s side searching for their first back-to-back Premier League wins since January 2017.
It is an astonishing statistic for all the wrong reasons and sums up the state of flux the club has been in.
Has West Ham fear factor returned?
But all the signs were there that that could be about to change when the Hammers cruised to a 3-0 win at Newcastle last time out.
When Pellegrini’s side have turned it on this season the goals have flowed.
And it seems the performance and result at St James’ Park has gone some way to restoring the club’s fear factor after some serious investment.
‘They won’t be able to live with them’
That’s according to Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson who feels Cardiff simply won’t be able to live with West Ham’s attacking talent.
“It was a great result for West Ham at the weekend at Newcastle,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“I’d expect them to follow that up with a win against Cardiff at the London Stadium despite not usually playing great against the lesser teams. Manuel Pellegrini’s side normally save their best for the bigger teams.
Comfortable win would put West Ham on cusp of top eight
“Cardiff are not going to have a lot of possession at West Ham.
“I know they get an extra day’s rest but I’ve got to go for a home win. I don’t think Cardiff will be able to live with the attacking players West Ham have.”
Merson has backed the Hammers to triumph 3-0.
A win could push Pellegrini’s side up to 11th and just three points off 8th place.
