According to the Mirror (18 March, page 47), Crystal Palace are set to start a bidding war for West Ham linked CSKA Moscow striker Fyodor Chalov this summer.
The Daily Star reported back in January that the Hammers were keen to sign the 21-year-old Russian.
West Ham desperately need a new striker. Neither Sebastien Haller nor Albian Ajeti have impressed since moving to the London Stadium back in the summer of 2019.
And now the Mirror (18 March, page 47) are claiming that Crystal Palace, Brighton and the Hammers could all be set for a summer bidding war for Chalov.
Stats
The CSKA ace has been far from prolific this season. He has racked up just six goals and six assists in 31 games for the Russian outfit (Transfermarkt).
He showed what he is capable of last season, however, with 17 goals and seven assists in 37 games for CSKA (Transfermarkt). The striker won the Russian Golden Boot that year as well.
He is still very young too, of course, so he will surely continue to improve with experience.
The Daily Star suggests that CSKA Moscow will demand £25 million for the Russia under-21 international.
Chalov has only ever played in Russia, however. So it will represent a big risk for West Ham to splash out £25 million on the striker.
As things stand, however, it might be taken out of the Hammers’ hands anyway, as the coronavirus continues to play havoc with everyday life and worldwide sport.
