According to a report from Spanish media outlet AS, West Ham goalkeeper Roberto is closing in on a loan move to La Liga side Alaves until the end of the season.
The 33-year-old joined the Hammers on a free transfer in the summer of 2019. But he has been nothing short of a total disaster for the east London outfit.
The Spaniard has played more than was expected for West Ham. Lukasz Fabianski suffered a serious injury at the end of September, and the 6ft 4in stopper stood in for the Pole.
Roberto has made 10 appearances this season, and he let in 21 goals in the process, with just one clean sheet to his name. And that came in the Carabao Cup against Newport County.
The former Espanyol and Olympiacos man made a whole host of high-profile errors that proved to be detrimental to West Ham’s chances of a top half finish.
And because of that, Hammers fans will be delighted by the report from Spanish media outlet AS suggesting that the 33-year-old flop is closing in on a loan move to Alaves.
He is expected to link up with the Spanish side on Monday.
Roberto is still under contract with West Ham until the summer of 2021, however. And shifting him on a permanent basis might prove to be slightly more problematic.
