According to a report from Ghana Soccernet, West Ham boss David Moyes is considering promoting Joseph Anang to the first-team squad next season.

The 19-year-old has been in excellent form for the Hammers’ under-23 side this season. In 17 games, Anang has let in just 18 goals, has kept eight clean sheets, and hasn’t lost during those outings.

West Ham will need to address their goalkeeping department within the next couple of years.

Lukasz Fabianski will be 35 in April whilst number two Darren Randolph will be 33 in May.

The Hammers do have the impressive Nathan Trott, who is currently on loan with AFC Wimbledon.

Ghana Soccernet claims that Anang could be promoted to the first-team squad next season, however. And considering his recent progression and development, it does seem like the right call.

Former West Ham goalkeeper Joe Hart raved about the teenager, labelling him as magnificent on his official Instagram account.

Anang, who stands at 6ft 1in tall (Transfermarkt) clearly has outstanding potential. But it could be argued that promoting him to the first-team squad next season might be a tad premature.

The Hammers are more than well-stocked in the goalkeeping department at the moment. And it might just be the more prudent play to give the West Ham youngster one more year in the under-23’s, as he continues to develop and improve even further still.
