Central midfield will certainly be an area where Hammers boss David Moyes wants to strengthen at the end of the season. Even if he does manage to make Tomas Soucek’s loan deal a permanent one.
Mark Noble is well past his best. And Carlos Sanchez will almost certainly leave when this season is finished.
There is also the small matter of Declan Rice continually being linked with a big-money move away from the London Stadium.
And Football Insider suggest that Newcastle ace Jonjo Shelvey is a potential option for West Ham.
Steve Bruce surely won’t want to lose the Harold Hill born ace, however. The 28-year-old has been a standout performer for the Magpies since Bruce was handed the reigns at St James’ Park.
Shelvey joined the Toon from Swansea City in January 2016 for around £12 million (BBC).
The talented midfielder has gone on to rack up 13 goals and 19 assists in 131 games for Newcastle (Transfermarkt).
The 28-year-old earns £70,000 per week according to Spotrac. And he is still under contract with Newcastle until the summer of 2023.
So he surely won’t come cheap for West Ham.
Shelvey would be a very useful addition for the Hammers. David Moyes could do with a player like the Newcastle ace in the middle of the park.
And considering the fact that he supported West Ham as a boy, he does seem to be like the ideal signing for the east London otufit.
