According to a report from French media outlet Foot Mercato, Arsenal showed interest in signing West Ham ace Issa Diop, but were quoted a massive £59.3 million for the young centre-back.
The 22-year-old joined the Hammers from Toulouse in the summer of 2018, for around £22 million, according to BBC Sport.
And the Frenchman was a real hit in his debut season at the London Stadium.
Diop is arguably now one of Manuel Pellegrini’s first names on his team-sheet.
The centre-back is big and powerful, strong in the air and in the challenge, and he seems to be a real star for the future.
French publication Foot Mercato claims that Arsenal were really impressed with Diop’s performances last season. So much so that they made an enquiry for him this summer.
They were quickly rebuffed by West Ham, however, with the east London outfit quoting the Gunners £59.3 million for the defender’s signature.
Diop is still under contract with the Hammers until the summer of 2023, so Pellegrini will be under no pressure to sell the Frenchman.
And West Ham fans will be hoping to see the 22-year-old improve even further still under the guidance of the Chilean this season.
