West Ham United are building something big under Manuel Pellegrini.
That’s the view of former England star Owen Hargreaves.
The ex Manchester United midfielder has turned to punditry since retiring from the game.
If anyone knows a thing or two about being part of successful sides it is double Champions League winner Hargreaves.
West Ham on the up under Pellegrini
He also tasted Premier League and Bundesliga glory with the Red Devils and Bayern Munich.
West Ham are unbeaten since their opening day thrashing by Manchester City.
The Hammers have looked a very capable team since. And many fans and pundits have been tipping the East Londoners for a tilt at the top six as a result.
A 0-0 draw at Villa Park last time out with 10 men showed a resolve not always associated with West Ham over the years.
Hargreaves backing impressive Hammers
And speaking to the Premier League’s official website, Hargreaves believes he can see something special in what Pellegrini is building at West Ham.
“I think they’re building something there and I think the appointment of Pellegrini was the right one,” Hargreaves told premierleague.com.
“Because he’s a safe pair of hands, he’s calm, he’s experienced. He has got a good goalkeeper in (Lukasz) Fabianski, he’s got a good back four, two strong centre backs who played really well (vs Villa) – Diop I think is really impressive – Declan Rice in front of him and tonnes of flair players.
Now go and prove him right
“And I thought the best player on the pitch was Sebastien Haller, everytime I watch him he plays really well and he’s going to score some goals this season.”
Hargreaves is often derided over his punditry.
But he makes some salient points and it is refreshing to see pundits take a genuine interest in clubs outside the established elite.
Let’s hope Hargreaves is proved right and West Ham can do something special this season.
