West Ham ace Manuel Lanzini missed large parts of last season through injury.

And the Hammers just didn’t look like the same team without him. They desperately missed his creativity and drive from midfield.

So when it was announced that he was fully fit and raring to go at the start of this campaign, much was expected of the mercurial Argentine.

The 26-year-old has made seven Premier League appearances for West Ham this season. But he has recorded just one assist, and no goals as yet.

Lanzini has looked a long way from his best, and maybe that is because he is easing his way back in, having spent so long on the sidelines. He did play 10 games from February at the back end of last season, however.

So he has had plenty of time to readjust to the intense nature of the Premier League.

The South American’s first touch has been heavy. His movement is nowhere near what he is capable of producing. And he quite simply just hasn’t looked that threatening.

With two weeks off now due to not being called up for international duty by Argentina, he has a great chance to work hard on his fitness, and come back for West Ham against Everton in 10 days time firing on all cylinders.

Lanzini, who earns £70,000 per week according to Spotrac, joined West Ham on a permanent deal in the summer of 2016 for around £10.8 million (the Express).

He instantly became a fan favourite at the London Stadium, having spent the previous season on loan in east London.

And he is arguably one of their most important players.

West Ham need their little diamond at his very best if they are to crack the top six.

He really is a truly gifted player. And it’s time that he started to show what he is truly capable of again.
