Reports this week have suggested West Ham United could be without star man Manuel Lanzini for the trip to Aston Villa.
West Ham travel to Villa Park for a clash of the claret and blues in the live Monday night game as the Premier League resumes this weekend.
A win for the Hammers could propel Manuel Pellegrini’s side into the top four depending on results elsewhere.
Lanzini the beating heart of much-improved Hammers
West Ham have been impressive since their opening day drubbing to Manchester City.
A draw at bogey side Brighton was followed by three wins before the international break.
Central to the club’s improved Premier League form has been Argentine playmaker Lanzini.
But the likes of fellow Hammers site Claret & Hugh ran a story this week suggesting the little jewel may struggle to be ready to face Villa.
Report suggests star could be Villa doubt
Lanzini is away with the Argentina squad at the moment.
After a 0-0 draw with Chile – a game in which Lanzini did not feature – Argentina beat Mexico 4-0 in a friendly in Texas overnight.
Lanzini featured from the bench.
Claret & Hugh state that Lanzini will be the last West Ham player to return from international duty and will ‘have just two clear days before the Villa match next Monday evening’.
Much ado about nothing
The club are not expecting Lanzini back until Friday evening and C&H referred to it as a ‘tight recovery time’ for the 26-year-old.
While it may not be an ideal situation the reports are much ado about nothing.
Lanzini will still have a full three days to recover from any jet lag and rest up before facing Villa.
So given Lanzini emerged unscathed from the Mexico game, and was not overextended during the international break, West Ham fans need not worry.
The attacker will undoubtedly be one of the first names on Manuel Pellegrini’s teamsheet for the Villa game.
