Jose Mourinho is set to lead Tottenham Hotspur out against West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday.
That’s according to a new report from The Sun in the wake of Mauricio Pochettino’s shock sacking on the eve of the crunch clash.
Pochettino was sacked on Tuesday night with Spurs chief Daniel Levy saying: “Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing.”
Hammers fans and Pellegrini hoping to capitalise on disarray
Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini finds his own job is under threat. That’s after a seven game winless streak stretching back two months.
And West Ham fans hoped the disarray might work in their favour in a bid to arrest their freefall.
But if anything Spurs look set to be boosted by the infamous ‘new manager bounce’ if The Sun’s claim is accurate.
Jose in dugout at London Stadium – report
SunSport claim Tottenham were locked in talks with Mourinho immediately after sacking Pochettino.
“SunSport understands both sides are confident they can reach a deal which would see him take charge before Saturday’s crunch clash with West Ham,” The Sun reports.
The last time Mourinho came to the London Stadium his Manchester United side were comfortably beaten 3-1.
West Ham vs Spurs just got even bigger
That gives the big game at the London Stadium added significance and intrigue.
There is no love lost between the two clubs.
West Ham fans had been relishing the prospect of inflicting a defeat which may have resulted in Spurs sacking their best manager for generations.
Hammers supporters may have to settle for getting Mourinho’s tenure off to a sticky start instead.
