Jordan Hugill admitted that he is unsure what the future holds for his footballing career, as he continues to impress on loan from West Ham with Queens Park Rangers, as quoted by Claret and Hugh.
The 27-year-old joined the Hammers from Preston North End in January 2018 for around £10 million, according to Football.London.
He failed to establish himself at the London Stadium, however. In truth, he wasn’t really given a fair enough chance to prove himself. Hugill played just three games for West Ham, and he failed to score a single goal for the club.
The striker was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough during the 2018/19 campaign, and he experienced similar problems on Teesside.
The 27-year-old has really found his feet this term, however. He joined QPR on loan from West Ham at the start of the season, and he has scored 13 goals in 36 games for the west London outfit (Transfermarkt).
Hugill is under contract with the Hammers until the summer of 2022. But when speaking to reporters, he suggested that he doesn’t know what the future holds, as quoted by Claret and Hugh:
“I think they probably know that I’m out doing my work here. I’m happy with what I’m doing here and I’m totally focused on what’s going on. Whatever happens at the end of the season or next season will happen and it’s out of my hands so I’m just doing my job which is ultimately playing well and scoring goals which I’ve been doing. I’ve not thought about anything to be honest.”
West Ham have had real problems up front this season. Sebastien Haller, a £45 million summer signing, is failing to deliver consistently, and has just seven goals to his name so far this season.
£8 million summer signing Albian Ajeti, meanwhile, is still yet to open his goalscoring account for West Ham.
Perhaps the Hammers should not have allowed Hugill to leave on loan this season. Especially considering the fact that the east London outfit moved on four strikers last summer.
Maybe the 27-year-old still has a future at West Ham. If given a chance regularly at the London Stadium next season, he might just surprise a few people.
