As the days continue to pass us by, and January 31st gets ever closer, West Ham still seem to be no closer to making any signings.
Darren Randolph was, of course, brought in at the end of last week. But that was hardly an exciting addition.
Hammers fans are demanding that some top class players be brought to the club this month. And rightly so.
But that is looking more and more less likely with every day that passes.
In truth, who could blame a top talent for not wanting to join West Ham, given the east London outfit’s current situation?
Central midfield is a position that the Hammers simply must strengthen this month. But with just 11 days remaining before the transfer window closes, the West Ham owners must get their business in order, and fast.
So the question has to be asked – would West Ham fans now be happy with Joe Allen?
The Express claimed at the start of the month that the Hammers were preparing an £8 million bid for the 56-capped Wales international.
That has obviously so far failed to materialise, however, and at the time, many West Ham fans were not happy at all with links to the Stoke City man.
The 29-year-old is a decent midfielder, however, and in truth, he could actually be a useful addition to David Moyes’s side. Albeit not the most glamorous.
Allen might not be young, powerful and full of pace, but he is an excellent passer of the football, and has bags of Premier League experience.
The Welshman would be able to slot in straight away, and for just £8 million, he might prove to be good value for the Hammers.
As West Ham fans, we might not like it, but we are nearing the time where we might just have to accept that the Stoke man is the best that we can do this month.
