Former Hammer of the Year Danny Gabbidon has torn into West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini following the defeat to Newcastle.

West Ham were beaten 3-2 at home by the Magpies on Saturday.

But that scoreline was kind on the Hammers who could easily have been 5-0 down at half-time.

Hammer horror show

Ex West Ham defender Gabbidon was on co-commentary for the game at the London Stadium.

And he was far from impressed with what he witnessed.

The Welshman has not held back with his assessment either, tearing into Pellegrini and his tactics in an eight-point blast on Twitter.

“Where to start with that West Ham performance,” Gabbidon said on Twitter.

Gabbidon tears Pellegrini a new one

“Thoughts on West Ham today: Fredericks should have played (instead of Pablo Zabaleta) but it was the system that was the problem.

“Roberto needs protection and lots of it! Pointless playing with a No. 10 unless he runs beyond because that’s the areas (Sebastien) Haller likes to drop into.

“(Felipe) Anderson is the pace outlet but is playing more like a playmaker than a winger. Still struggle to control opposition counterattacks.

“Is Pellegrini inspiring the players and is Declan Rice fit?”

Fans have seen this coming for weeks

Gabbidon makes some salient points. And many of them are issues that have been raised by fans for weeks now.

Worryingly Pellegrini either cannot see it, refuses to act to change his tactics or is being hamstrung by a serious lack of options in his squad after a paltry £25million net spend in the summer.

Defeat to Newcastle means West Ham have not won for six games.

A promising start has well and truly fizzled out and the club is now looking over its shoulder.
