West Ham were comfortably beaten by Manchester City at the Etihad last night.

In truth, the Hammers never had a chance.

David Moyes set his side up with a flat back five, three defensive midfielders sitting in front of them and Robert Snodgrass playing off of Michail Antonio in attack.

West Ham had absolutely no pace in the team aside from Antonio, making it next to impossible to hit City on the counter attack.

And for a team set up so defensively, they could not have looked more open and easy to get at. Really, it would not have flattered Pep Guardiola’s side had they won the match 5-0.

West Ham look like a team destined for relegation

The Hammers are currently sitting inside the bottom three. Last night’s game against City was their game in hand, and was somewhat of a free hit, but they went out with nothing more than a whimper.

It’s Liverpool away up next for West Ham. And the fans will be expecting more of the same from Moyes. The Hammers will most likely set up defensively and be beaten comfortably.


The only way to get at these top teams is by exploiting their vulnerabilities. Not by just sitting back and waiting for them to score.
