The enigma that is West Ham United continues to baffle the big two pundits but this week they are in agreement.
West Ham entertain Southampton in their final home game of the season on Saturday.
The Hammers go into the game full of confidence after making history last time out.
Michail Antonio’s brilliant goal was the first scored by an away team at the new ground of fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
As a result the Hammers bagged the bragging rights to the first win there too.
Pellegrini will want to finish season in style
Southampton are safe from the threat of relegation and have been much improved of late.
But Manuel Pellegrini will be keen to see his side finish with a flourish.
A win would take West Ham onto 49 points and gives them a chance of a top 10 finish on the final day.
And the pair are in agreement, the Hammers are maddeningly unpredictable. But they will beat the Saints.
‘They can embarrass you’
“They can embarrass you, West Ham,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Look at them and think yep, they’ll beat Huddersfield easily but it takes a last-minute goal to score their fourth. They should have won against Manchester United, I gave them no chance at Tottenham and they won.
“Both teams are safe, it’s always important to win your last home game. 3-2.”
Golfer completes the set
BBC Sport’s Lawrenson described West Ham as ‘very up and down’ as he too predicted a win, 2-0.
“West Ham became the first away team to win at Tottenham’s new stadium last week and although they are very up and down, I have a feeling they will sign off with another good performance in their last home game of the season,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
To complete the set, golfer Tommy Fleetwood – who famously partnered Hammers fan Francesco Molinari in Europe’s Ryder Cup win – also backed West Ham to win, 3-1.
